Ugadi/Gudi Padwa Dishes
Gasagase (Poppy Seeds) Kheer
Ingredients

2 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tbsp rice
2 cups milk
2 cups water
2 cups mashed jaggery
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
2 tbsp crushed almonds
1 tbsp crushed pistachios

  Method:

  1. Soak poppy seeds and rice for 3-4 hours
  2. Grind them in to fine paste
  3. Bring water to boil
  4. Add mashed jaggery and let it melts, stirring continuously
  5. Add the paste and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring continuously
  6. Add milk and cardamom powder
  7. Let it boil for 3-4 minutes
  8. Garnish with nuts
  9. Serve hot

Making time: 25 minutes, excluding soaking time
Makes: 5 servings
