  • Dietary management is important for high cholesterol to avoid its complications. Remember to use unsaturated fatty acids like sunflower, olive, or corn oil for the preparation of the food items. 15 ml of oil per day is used in these diets. Saturated fat intake is related with an increase in blood cholesterol and certain chronic diseases.

    Fish - 1 piece
    Fenugreek sabji - 1 cup
    Skim milk curd - 1/2 cup

    Mid evening Tea / Coffee - 1 cup
    Watermelon - 1 bowl
    Tea / Coffee - 1 cup
    Papaya - 1 bowl
    Dinner Peas soup - 1 bowl

    Bengal gram whole - 1/2 cup

    Foods allowed

    Cereals - Wheat, rice, bajra, ragi, jowar, oats, dhalia and maize
    Pulses - Whole and sprouted legumes, dhals
    Vegetables and fruits - All vegetables and fruits
    Milk - Low fat skimmed milk and skim milk curd, buttermilk
    Oils and fats - Vegetable oils like corn oil, safflower oil, mustard oil etc
    Non vegetarian - fish and egg white

    Foods not allowed

    Cereal products - Cakes, pastries, naan, roomali roti and fast foods.
    Vegetables and fruits - Fried vegetables, potato and banana chips, canned vegetables
    Milk products - Cheese, butter, khoa, cream, condensed milk, Sweets, chocolates, and ice creams

    Oils and fats - Oily dishes, fried foods, ghee, coconut oil and hydrogenated oils
    Non vegetarian - Egg yolk, lobster, prawns, chicken with skin, all organ meat, red meat, crabs, and oyster
    Miscellaneous - Pickles, papads, sauces, and salt biscuits
